Development of a new multifunctional packaging for fish preservation

This project’s objective is the creation of a new multifunctional packaging with antimicrobial and antioxidant capabilities which allows to lengthen the preservation and quality of certain types of fish thanks to the controlled release of some antimicrobial and antioxidant compounds, thus lengthen the shelf life and keeping the level of quality of this food, providing the consumer with a safer and more stable product.

The commercial goal is to manage to improve the competitiveness of the companies involved getting them into a strategical market, within their business plan, through a revolutionary material which can be applied to certain sort of packaging improve the shelf life and the value added to fish species which are way difficult to keep by using the current technologies (maintaining the cold chain and preservation under modified atmospheres).

Overall description

Development of new antimicrobial materials featuring controlled release to be added into agri-food packaging which are adapted to species prone to suffer microbiological alterations, such as fish, and as strategical objectives the improvement of the competitiveness of the involved companies getting them into a strategical market empowering the innovative activity, promoting the private investment, boosting the employment and getting a better country’s technological balance.
